Read the entire thread of this dude's tweet. It’s not particularly surprising that at this point in a grinding, bloody war @nytimes, and some American think tanks as well as in the French, German and Italian governments look for a way out with a compromise that will dismember Ukraine further. 1/4

Notice that he falls back on the "fighting for freedom" argument but ignores the VITAL national security implications facing the US and Europe.
I've asked several times how we turn this thing off. The responses have been childish and silly. They usually go something like "once Ukraine is whole" or "after Russia is defeated".
Those that are pushing the "freedom" or worse the "fighting for democracy all over the world" are missing the big picture.
Is Europe actually prepared for a 5 to 10 year insurgency/low level war?
Is the global economy prepared?
Ramping up a conflict with no clear idea of what the end state will be is like doing an Afghanistan 2.0. If you don't know the desired endstate then a war can go on forever.
The US is propping up Ukraine's economy. That won't last past the midterms. The US and Europe are sending excess military gear to Ukraine. Again that has a finite timeline.
Sooner or later this will start to involve real national treasure and hard choices between Ukraine and domestic needs.
Finding an off ramp isn't just smart. It's a national security imperative. The longer this goes on the bigger the chance this thing destabilizes Europe and other parts of the world.
