Considering the sanctions I thought this would happen long ago. Putin's decision making has been behind the power curve consistently. Worse? Apparently the EU nations thought that they would still have access despite the most draconian sanctions ever seen.

What does this mean?

It means that Europe no longer has the room to build up their supplies.

If the winter is unusually harsh or long or both then we can expect much pain and suffering.
