U.S. Marines with Bravo Company, 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, helocast from a U.S. Army MH-47 Chinook helicopter with 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment as part of Steel Knight 23 off the coast of Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, Dec. 2, 2022. Helocasting is a maritime insertion method for small units during amphibious operations. Steel Knight is an annual combined arms live-fire exercise which ensures 1st MARDIV is optimized for naval expeditionary warfare in contested spaces, and is purpose-built to facilitate future operations afloat and ashore.
