Switzerland will ban the use of electric cars for 'non-essential' journeys if the country runs out of energy this winter, the government has announced.
Emergency plans drawn up in the event the Swiss are hit by blackouts also call for shop opening hours to be reduced by up to two hours per day, heating systems in nightclubs to be turned off, and other buildings to be heated to no more than 20C.
Crisis measures could see streaming services and games consoles banned, Christmas lights turned off, and all sports stadiums and leisure facilities closed.
I've been warning about General Winter showing up and changing the fighting in Ukraine.
I've warned about the looming energy issues in Europe.
Many of my readers have basically shit on the idea of that being the case (even though I was quoting from MSM reporting on the subject).
Now we see Sweden taking prudent steps to prepare for the worst.
I find that amazing.
Not that a govt is taking steps to protect its population, but rather that the community I have here often talks (well the US population so it probably doesn't apply) of being prepared for emergencies, crime, etc...
Many of those same people will once again try and downplay this report instead of taking steps to prepare themselves and their loved ones of possible problems.
They've obviously never pulled security in a hurricane evacuee center, done duty at an overseas HA/DR operation or even walked into an ER.
In my mind being a good citizen means to do your duty to avoid being a drain on society. Whether in good times or bad. Simply planning ahead means that YOU will not be an extra mouth to feed, shelter and provide security.
Besides who wants to be in a "Super Dome" situation after a major disaster...oh and a prolonged power outage IS a major disaster.
