If we're going back into the jungle in a big way, and I really can't tell with this EABO/Stand In Force shit, then we might want to dust off all the lessons learned from the Vietnam conflict. This Tweet reminded me of my pops telling me how they could smell the enemy and vice versa. The problem today is that it will take many days in the bush to get "natural" and even with that gun oil, MREs, and other things will still give you away. Much to relearn and apparently not much time.1st Inf Div lessons learned from late 1969 on the enemy's use of smell to detect American troops. Has anyone ever done a dissertation on the role of smell in combat? Could be interesting- pic.twitter.com/I7cdivJK56
