I've wondered about smartphones and why they're so bad on the battlefield and the dangers...a service needs a military grade phone without the extras that cause problems...

Ok. I get it.

Commercial phones are dangerous as hell.

But smartphones can be tremendous tools too.  Wonder why some service hasn't built a military grade smart phone that takes out all the potential dangers and leaves in various apps that would allow quick - simple communication (think an app for various things).

I mean we have a Star Trek tricoder in our pockets.  They can be of use on the battlefield and not just an albatross around our neck.
