China about to join Russia in fighting ISIS?

Thanks to FNU for the link!

via IBT
In a bid to strengthen the Russian air campaign, another Syrian ally -- China -- is now planning to deploy Shenyang J-15, a carrier-based fighter aircraft, in Syria.

Several reports have stated that Beijing has agreed to join the Russian air campaign. The development has come mere days after Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told a UN Security Council meeting that the world can no longer afford to stand by and look on with folded arms but must also not "arbitrarily interfere" in the Syrian crisis.

The Israeli military and intelligence news website DEBKAfile has now claimed that the Chinese are preparing to join Russia. The Jerusalem-based news website noted that the "J-15 warplanes will take off from the Chinese Liaoning-CV-16 aircraft carrier, which reached Syrian shores on 26 September."
From a US perspective...correction from the current administration's perspective this is going from bad to worse (if this is true).

Can you imagine the public relations crowing we're gonna hear if Putin can claim that together, Russia and China are about to set straight what the US messed up?

Can you see the various nation states in the region rushing to talk to Russia and China so that they get their blessing?

This is totally unconfirmed but I can see the US administration reacting badly to this.  I can see the Pentagon writing checks that someone's son will have to cash.

If this is verified then it's bad.  We really need to watch this thing.

Sidenote:  I never knew China considered Syria an ally.  Our "B" team didn't do a very good job of either gathering support, maintaining that support or freezing out countries that didn't want to go along.  I'll say it again.  We're seeing our Administration, State Dept and Pentagon being totally outclassed by the Russians on EVERY level.

BAE is building the US Army a new Light Tank!!!!!

HOLY FUCK!

BAE teased this photo on their Twitter Feed while talking about what they're bringing to AUSA.

Looks like a freaking Light Tank to me!!!  Good on you boys (that's the gender neutral term for everyone at the company...lighten up ladies)!

The Pentagon begins whining about a Continuing Resolution (CR)...

via National Defense.
Case in point is the multiyear contract the Air Force signed with Lockheed Martin for C-130J cargo airplanes. “If we go to a year-long CR, we’ll break that multiyear,” said Air Force acquisition executive William LaPlante. “It’s pretty severe.”
The Air Force estimates about 50 programs would be thrown into chaos. “What’s worse than sequester? A year-long CR,” LaPlante said.
One of the Air Force’s most prized acquisitions, the KC-46 aerial refueling tanker, could be affected, even though the aircraft development is being funded under a fixed-price deal with The Boeing Co. “The tanker is going well even though it has challenges. The biggest threat to the tanker is actually the government’s behavior,” said LaPlante. “So far we’ve been good at keeping our part of the deal. But it has been very difficult in this climate.”
An illustration of the inefficiency created by short-term funding is what happened in 2013 when the Air Force had to delay a contract award for a space surveillance system. The plan was to sign a contract for the so-called “space fence” in September 2013, but with no budget in place, the Air Force held off. By the time funding was approved, the pricing in the proposal was no longer valid so the service had to go back to square one. That ended up costing the program a whole year and $120 million in extra costs, LaPlante said. “That was just because of the uncertainty.”
Navy acquisition executive Sean Stackley painted a similar picture. “We are still recovering from the 2013 CR and sequester,” he said. The Navy has a growing backlog of airplanes and ships waiting for repairs and upgrades at depots. “New starts were slowed down in 2013, but that’s minor compared to what we’re staring at in 2106,” Stackley said. “By and large the uncertainty of not knowing what your budget will be puts you in shackles in terms of executing in the course of the year.”
Here.

Sorry boys.  I no longer care.  Whine all you want but you've bet the house on stupid ideas, you're making plans to further neuter the Ground Combat Element and you've cut the number of battalions to the point of idiocy.

Robotic BMP-3 with Kuganets-25 turret?

Thanks to Olgerts for the link!

I'm really not sure what we're seeing here.  I thought when I first saw pics of this vehicle, that it was simply a BMP-3 with the Kuganets-25 turret.  But here is the description to the video...

Impact version robotic complex "Strike" on display in the "Innovation Day of Defense of the Russian Federation"
Interesting.

Never heard of the "Impact version" or the "Strike" program...time to dig a little.

KC-46 is the underreported fiasco of the decade...

I've been all over the F-35 but a story that is just as big is the theft of public funds that is the KC-46 program.  RSTREET has an article that is a MUST READ on how poorly the KC-46 compares to legacy tankers.  AirBus was right, the USAF just screwed the taxpayer.  Check this out...
OK, so the KC-46 must be much better plane than the KC-135, right? Bourdius then compared the fuel capacity of the three tankers. He found the KC-46 carried only 6 percent more fuel than a KC-135.
Then this...
Finally, he measured how much cargo the tankers could carry and found the KC-46 carried 22 percent less cargo than the KC-135.
And my final example is this...
In 2037, the youngest KC-135 will be 72 years old. To get the same purchase value out of a KC-46 that enters service in 2017, that plane will have to fly until the year 2,251 – 234 years. Who wants to take that bet?
And you wonder why I look around the Defense budget and really don't care if the spending caps remain in place?  You wonder why I yell about the US Army and Marine Corps cutting real combat strength in the form of its Ground Combat Element while pumping up USAF weapon systems?

Current military leadership is lost....and some of them are corrupt as hell....or just plain stupid.  You decide which.

The Church of Sweden is under attack from within...

Thanks to Thiago for this crazy, scary and heartbreaking news!

via Bloomberg.
The Bishop of Stockholm has proposed a church in her diocese remove all signs of the cross and put down markings showing the direction to Mecca for the benefit of Muslim worshippers.
Eva Brunne, who was made the world’s first openly lesbian bishop by the church of Sweden in 2009, and has a young son with her wife and fellow lesbian priest Gunilla Linden, made the suggestion to make those of other faiths more welcome.
The church targeted is the Seamen’s mission church in Stockholm’s eastern dockyards. The Bishop held a meeting there this year and challenged the priest to explain what he’d do if a ship’s crew came into port who weren’t Christian but wanted to pray.
Ya know this is another one of those issues that I have with modern religion. Once they gave you "help" to keep you on the proper heading with regard to personal behavior and morals.

Now?

They're as lost as everyone else...and worse they seem unwilling to call wrong - wrong anymore.

To my readers in Sweden good luck.  You're gonna need it.

Russian ground weapons in Syria? How about the BTR-82A and the AWM Sniper Rifle!

Thanks to Merowig for the links!

From reading the Russian Blogs it appears that the BTR-82A is a rare sight even in most units so to see it deployed with the Russian Marines is telling.  Even more interesting is the fact that these are action photos.  I was under the impression that the Russians would simply being using their Marines for force protection.

I was wrong.

These guys are out hookin' and jabbin'.  This jives with reports that an offensive spearheaded by Assad loyalist along with Iranian Quds forces and backed by Russian Marines might be spot on.

http://spioenkop.blogspot.de/search/label/Russia
What has me scratching my head, but is actually understandable is the second photo.  The Russian Special Operations guys in Syria are using British made Accuracy International Sniper Rifles....and wearing Under Armor!

Scratching my head because I really thought that the Brits/Europeans had the same export controls as we do, but then you read further and realize that they're also using IVECO LMV combat patrol vehicles and its apparent that they're not going to reinvent the wheel but simply use the best of what's available.

I thought that this was a move to fill the vacuum by the lack of US leadership/planning for the region.  I think it might be more than that.  This is beginning to look like a long range thing to firmly establish a base of operations in Syria.  In 2 or 3 years we might look back at this time and regret that we left the Russian Bear such a big opening to become the dominant power AND king maker in the region.

Video shows LAPD Officer being stalked

via CBS Los Angeles...
A disturbing video that seemingly shows an officer being stalked has the local law enforcement community on edge.
The footage, posted on social media, begins with a Los Angeles police officer getting out of his patrol car, followed by a shot of a handgun held by the person shooting the video. That individual was recording the video from inside a car parked behind the officer.
The video, which had gone viral, is enough for the wife of an L.A. police officer to think someone may be sending a threat. “It’s completely frightening, and I know that a lot of the wives are scared,” she said.
She is part of the LAPD Wives Association. Many of the members have seen the video, and so have many officers.
“They just want to do their job and yet all this hatred is coming at them. And it’s becoming more and more violent,” she said. “They are so scared that their husbands are not going to come home.”
CBS2/KCAL9 was told the video was posted on Instagram, and it has since been taken down. But many in law enforcement remain rattled.
“The hatred toward the officers isn’t going to accomplish anything. It’s just going to create a bigger divide.”
The LAPD said it is taking this matter seriously and has opened investigation.
Video here.

When you conduct law enforcement like you're fighting on foreign shores why are you surprised when you start an insurgency?

Too many high profile incidents have occurred and too many have drawn lines for this to end well.  Add to it the issues of law enforcement being used as revenue generators instead of peacekeepers and you have a powder keg.

Its really too bad.  Many people are gonna get hurt because of this....on both sides of the divide.
