Politics Talk. The more I look at this Judge Moore issue the more it looks like a hit job...

This is gonna be real short and quick.

I don't know if I'm a fan of Judge Moore from Alabama or not.  Quite honestly the guy sounds like a bit of a loon.  But even a loon shouldn't be a victim of a political hit job and this whole issue sounds like one.

Think about this.

The guy has been in the public eye for over 30 years.  He was once on the Supreme Court of Alabama.  He has been slammed for everything except sexual assault and now out of the blue we see all these allegations?

Maybe I'm being silly but it appears to me that if these allegations were out there then someone would have brought them forward long ago.

This has the fingerprints of both the Democrat and Republican establishment all over it.  It also has the news media being a willful idiot in pushing a story that was dropped in their lap.

In summation this has the smell of coordination across political parties that should make us all sick.

Moore is hardly a saint.  I don't think that we would be drinking buddies in this life or the next but that doesn't mean that he should get thrown under the bus in a political hit job.  Especially one with these kinds of accusations.

Supposedly Breitbart is about to start digging into this.  They're just as slanted as the Washington Times but at least we'll get another perspective on this story.

The crazy thing?

What the Russians are accused of is SMALL beans compared to this. If my instincts are right then our very republic is being undermined from within. These are the kinds of games the Romans were involved in before they saw it all melt away (well sorta...they were a bit more honest and would at least let their enemies see them before they were killed).

Indian Armed Forces scrap Advanced Tejas Light Fighter & Arjun MBT...

via Topyaps.com
Indian Armed Forces have told the Centre to scrap proposals for advanced versions of indigenous Tejas light combat aircraft and Arjun main-battle tank. Instead, they want foreign single-engine fighters and futuristic armoured fighting vehicles through the ‘Make in India’ route.
Story here.

Wow.  With regard to the Arjun MBT?  No question they would go this route. That tank was just underperforming and too expensive.  The thinking was solid, the economics prohibitive.  Too many good tanks on the market so producing one domestically was just never going to be a winner unless you had buy in from one of the major manufacturers. The "make in India" thinking is spot on.

As far as the Tejas is concerned I'm a bit miffed.

I've been a closet Tejas fanboy for awhile now and saw it having the potential to be a modern day A4 SkyHawk.  To see that they're not gonna follow thru is beyond me.  I thought they had cleared all the hurdles in it's development and I was ready to see it soar.

The tank I view as being a past due decision.  The Tejas I'm disappointed. Such is India's procurement system.

Note: This will piss off some of my readers in India but this is why I don't follow them closely.  Too much vacillation for my likes.  Programs take too long.  What kills me is that they were able to get the Brahmos done relatively quickly but these other programs have been caught in purgatory for decades. I just don't get it!

SEALs killed a Green Beret over money? Not surprising...money has been floating around like crazy...

via Daily Beast.
Logan Melgar hadn’t had a drink on June 4.

The Green Beret sergeant’s dry day became a key to unraveling the narrative spun by the elite Navy commandos whom military investigators now suspect killed him, officials familiar with the case said.

Melgar, a staff sergeant in the Army’s 3rd Special Forces Group, was specifically selected for an intelligence operation in the West African nation of Mali. He was well respected by the American Embassy staff and the partner forces there, a former U.S. Africa Command official said. But shortly before he died, Melgar told his wife that he had a bad feeling about two of his partners in that effort, both of whom were members of SEAL Team Six.

Not wanting to say much more, Melgar informed his wife, Michelle, that he’d tell her the full story when he got back home, according to an official speaking on condition of anonymity because the investigation is still ongoing.

Now those two Navy SEALs are under investigation for killing Melgar—an investigation, first reported by The New York Times, sending shockwaves throughout the special-operations community. Military experts were hard-pressed to think of another case where elite U.S. troops turned on one another.

This account is based on five members of the special-operations community who were not cleared to speak publicly. Representatives of both U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) and U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) declined comment for this story, as the Navy Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) has an active investigation into Melgar’s death. NCIS would not comment beyond confirming the investigation is underway.
Story here.

That's the run up.  The story itself is damning and completely believable.  The problem?  Cash has been floating around those countries we've been involved in for a long time.  Unaccountable cash.  Cash used for bribes, for favors.....the whole nine yards.

Much of that cash has gone missing and the Pentagon knows all about it.

And that's the dirty little secret.

Rumors have been floating around about a lot of evil shit happening.  Weapons of all types being smuggled both ways on military flights.  E-6's that turned into millionaires overnight.

And SOCOM has had its hands all over it.

Am I making an accusation?  Hell no.  I want to live and I don't need SEAL Team 6, 4 or some juiced up Rangers showing up on my doorsteps, but the truth is out there.

This Green Beret was unfortunately too pure for his own good.  Most know to shut their mouths, look the other way and stay alive.

Eventually the deeds will be told but I don't expect justice to be done. It's war and shit happens. But follow this story gents.  A good man died, some good men lost their way and turned bad and in the end I blame (yeah you guessed it) leadership.  Endless war has consequences on the force and on the homeland.  The price we're gonna pay for 20 years war has only just begun.

Unmatched combat power at sea....its stark and stunning...

I've been monitoring the conversation on the display of power being put on by the US Navy in the Pacific with the 3 carrier strike groups joining together for an exercise.

Ignoring the cost and the maintenance issues and the deployment hash that will result, one thing is obvious.

We're seeing unmatched combat power at sea.

No other power on the planet can match what we're seeing here.  You can talk about the possibilities of a sub sneaking thru, you can talk about how anti-ship missiles could hazard the fleet but the reality is stark and stunning.

Not many individual nations could stand against what we're seeing here.

In short we're seeing the equivalent of a medium nation's air force, navy and a much bigger Marine contingent arrayed all for (hopefully) show.

We don't have a problem with men and material.  This exercise proves that in spades.  We have an issue with strategy.  To be frank?  We should have curb stomped every terrorists on the face of the planet long ago.  There is no credible reason for ISIS to have lasted as long as they did against the combat power of just the US, much less NATO and our other allies.

If we fail, its not because of men and equipment.  It's because of strategy.

Make no mistake about it.  If the US is ever involved in a battle of national survival we will win...and win big.  It's the wars of choice that we have problems with.

America's Battle Fleet is assembled in the Pacific (vid)

This is the biggest show of force yet in the N. Korea crisis.  I call it a battle fleet because I don't know what else to call it.  3 carrier battle groups sailing together can hardly be called a squadron, and doesn't fit the definition of flotilla (at least as I know it), so battle fleet it is.

If you consider all Navy/Marine Forces in the region then this is without a doubt the "hot" region.  Just eyeballing things I think its fair to say that at least 75% of our naval assets are located near N. Korea at this time.  In that I include Marines and aircraft and ships located on Japan, Guam and S. Korea.

I hope I'm wrong in prediction that war is a foregone conclusion but if it is then this is an EXPENSIVE and deployment breaking action.

No matter how this goes it will have ramifications for the Navy/Marine Corps for at least 3 years...and that's no shots are ever fired in anger.

Pic of the day. H145 Light Attack Helicopter...

Best hunting story I've heard....via ModernMatthew Tumblr Page.

Caption:
If you don’t know who Carl Akeley was, here’s your chance to learn about one of the biggest badasses in US History.  I mean, he was BFF with Teddy Roosevelt, so you can imagine he knows how to throw down.  Speaking of which…

After a long day of hunting and observing wildlife in Somalia, Carl Akeley was headed back to camp, where he’d bagged a hyena and warthog earlier in the day.  When he got there all he saw was a couple of big bloody streaks leading off into a thick brush.  Akeley froze, realizing what was happening, just as an enormous leopard leaped towards him teeth-first.  Unable to get his weapon back around quickly enough, Akeley dropped his gun and threw his arm up just in time to prevent the vicious beast from ripping out his throat. The leopard latched on to Akeley’s left hand, chomping down with all its might.  When his attempts to pull his hand out of the leopards’ jaws only made the creature bite down harder, Akeley, locked in a life or death fistfight with one of the most perfect predators nature ever created, did one of the most insane things ever – he punched his fist further into the leopard’s mouth. Yes, you are reading that correctly. Carl Akeley, noted philanthropist and respected wildlife conservationist, punched a fucking leopard in the esophagus from the inside. The leopard gagged, Akeley pulled his hand out, and then he took the thing, bodyslammed it to the ground, and jumped on it with both knees, crushing it to death. Then Akeley, bleeding profusely from horrific wounds on both hands, clawed to shit, still recovering from a recent battle with malaria, and barely able to stand, picked up the leopard (despite a shattered hand), threw it over his shoulder, walked back to camp with it, and turned it into taxidermy for a museum exhibit.

THE END.

Happy Veterans Day...

To all the Vets out there, Happy Veterans Day.  For everyone else?  Enjoy the holiday!

One small tidbit.  Remember what Veterans Day is for.  It's not to remember the fallen.  That's for Memorial Day.  It's not to celebrate those currently on Active Duty.  That's for Armed Forces Day.
Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day, a U.S. public holiday in May; Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans, while Memorial Day honors those who died while in military service.[1] It is also not to be confused with Armed Forces Day, a minor U.S. remembrance that also occurs in May, which specifically honors those currently serving in the U.S. military.
Veterans Day is for those Vets that are still alive, that served honorably (I know there is a movement for Vets that have bad paper to be recognized but I disagree with that).

Small tidbit over.
