That was an easy guess. If he stayed he'd be hung in the city square. Seems like we're seeing a back to basics movement in some parts of the world.#BREAKING Sri Lanka President Gotabaya Rajapaksa flees as protesters surround residence: defence source pic.twitter.com/wbMTmAcwtJ

Germany refuses to ‘plunder its own military’ for the sake of Ukraine
via MSN
Berlin has rejected a request to deliver around 200 Fuchs armoured personnel carriers to Kyiv, citing a need to preserve the country’s own security interests.
“We support Ukraine with everything that is possible and responsible. But we have to ensure Germany’s ability to defend itself,” Christine Lambrecht, the German defence minister, told the German Press Agency on Thursday.
“It is therefore irresponsible to plunder the Bundeswehr (German military), especially in these times, and even to ignore the military advice of the General Inspector.”
Ms Lambrecht said her decision was made pursuant to military advice.
This is the problem that Western leaders have walked themselves into (well another problem).
For some reason they've emboldened Zelensky to make all kinds of requests for weapons (I'm assuming publicly without prior consultation) and now that he is they're having to smack him down PUBLICLY.
Don't think that this is just a German problem either. If you've been paying attention the US is reaching the limits of what it can REASONABLY and without incurring significant RISK donate to the Ukrainians.
That's why the fight has devolved to the state its in now. I guess that's why the sanctions have been so scattershot and draconian.
Realization that this war could drag on is settling in and that was not according to plan (at least from what I can tell).
A long grinding war will work in the Russians favor. We're all looking at material and forgetting about the men actually employing the weapons.
Simply put? Ukraine will run out of fighting men and the pipeline of volunteers looks to be drying up. Add in the mix of the hardships that many Europeans will suffer because of energy disruption (not even counting the looming food crisis) and negotiations to end this take on new relevance.
Sorry to all the hawks out there but this thing has been shabbily planned and executed.
The only way to change the trajectory of this is to introduce NATO forces into Ukraine and I pray to God our leadership isn't that stupid.
While you weren't looking - Syrian region declares state of emergency in anticipation of Turkish military operation
via CNN
The administration of the Kurdish-controlled areas of northeastern Syria declared a state of emergency on Wednesday amid "threats" of a Turkish military operation.*Background: "Due to the threats that are facing North and East Syria by the Turkish occupation state, we are declaring a state of public emergency," the statement said. The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria added that it will use all its capabilities to "protect the people from any aggressive attack" and that "a priority to confront these threats should be given."*Why it matters: Earlier this month Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced Turkey's will to "create a safe zone" along the country's borders with Syria, saying that he is "clearing the area from terrorists."
Oh you thought it was over? Not hardly! Global chaos is here. The knock on effects of this thing are just getting started. I didn't expect it to pop off so soon but here we are.
If you think its bad now wait till winter time in the north and summer in the south. That's when everything will get real sporting!
Sri Lanka is about to burn. What do you do if you're in certain occupations during times like this?

The leadership in Sri Lanka will either flee or be killed soon (my prediction)
I wonder if someone somewhere is spooling up forces to intervene. My opinion? Not our fight, and we can help (to a degree that we can) after the dust settles.NOW - Protesters storm the presidential palace in Sri Lanka's capital.pic.twitter.com/Wv6oQ10kBQ

My God! No child should have to face this after school.
I'm not naive though. I realize that this scene plays out on a smaller scale all over the country. My disgust and rage still apply. We must do better. We have sympathy for everyone except for those we should actually have sympathy for. These children deserve better. Those adults? Locked up and or moved out.Wow… this is what kids in San Francisco have to walk through to get home from school… watch till end pic.twitter.com/zMdsC16Jlf

Remember the story of the super fat Russian general dragged out of retirement to lead their forces? All a lie and everyone ran with it...
Read the entire Tweet. She lays it out quite well. What has me spinning is that I have Russian readers here and NONE of them corrected the idiocy.Remember this "exclusive" story in the Daily Star about "general Pavel", who was supposedly "dragged out of retirement" by Putin and sent to Ukraine?
