Former Joint Chiefs chair calls for talks to end Ukraine war

A former Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman said on Sunday that the United States needs to work toward ending the war in Ukraine as soon as possible, amid reports of escalating violence and talk of increased threats of nuclear weapons use. 

Retired Admiral Mike Mullen — the nation’s top military officer during parts of the Bush and Obama administrations — assessed on ABC’s This Week that Russian President Vladimir Putin is a “cornered animal,” a situation that he said “speaks to the need to get to the table” and negotiate. 

Referring to President Biden’s recent warning of a nuclear conflict, Mullen added, “I think we need to back off that a little bit and do everything we possibly can to try to get to the table to resolve this thing.”

Mullen also urged Secretary of State Antony Blinken and other top diplomats to figure out a way to get Putin and Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelensky to talk. “[A]s is typical in any war, it has got to end and usually there are negotiations associated with that,” he said. “The sooner the better as far as I’m concerned.”

Has anyone thought about Fentanyl could be used to kill many Americans?

 I don't understand the deal with Fentanyl.  Everyone talks about how tiny a dose is needed to kill, I've talked to all kinds of drug addicts and they say they're scared to death of it.

So why is it the new hot thing when it comes to drugs?

I don't get it but has anyone thought about the flip side of all this?

If a tiny amount can kill then what if some terrorist decides to pull off a high body count op on us?

The Chicago Tylenol murders were a series of poisoning deaths resulting from drug tampering in the Chicago metropolitan area in 1982. The victims had all taken Tylenol-branded acetaminophen capsules that had been laced with potassium cyanide. Seven people died in the original poisonings, with several more deaths in subsequent copycat crimes.

No suspect has been charged or convicted of the poisonings. New York City resident James William Lewis was convicted of extortion for sending a letter to Tylenol's manufacturer, Johnson & Johnson, that took responsibility for the deaths and demanded $1 million to stop them, but evidence tying Lewis to the actual poisoning never emerged.

The incidents led to reforms in the packaging of over-the-counter substances and to federal anti-tampering laws.

This can get scary.  Super scary fast (I am using the word scary in the proper context here....pussified individuals take note).

I'm not alarmed, not surprised and definitely not outraged. I fully expected this much earlier (even the CIA/DIA/FBI expected as much). War is a two way range. You give outgoing you can't be surprised when you have incoming. We've been bolstering the Ukrainians for months and the Russians have done little to stop the flow. If it was opposite I would expect railways just inside the nation we were attacking to be eviscerated and microfragmented to hell.

My guess?

I think this has become personal and not professional for both Putin and Biden.

I think Putin will probably unleash some big attack near the election in a bid to raise anger against Biden.

I think some of our allies will get hit too.

Poland better get its cyber game up...I'm pretty sure they're on a target list.

What I wonder is how far will they go against Ukraine.  Refineries?  Pipelines?  Powerplants?  I expect all that and more to get hit.

Lets be real.

This is about the fight now.  I have been concerned about the aftermath but the powers that be don't seem to give a fuck.

Ukraine is probably broken beyond reasonable repair.

Europe will have a failed state at its center for several generations.

Zelensky is so stupid that he doesn't see the danger.  Unless this gets turned off soon, he will be the leader of a destroyed state and once the bullets stop flying he'll be quickly forgotten.
