Don't know what to make of the retreat from Kherson

I don't know what to make of the retreat from Kherson.

On one hand we've been seeing the run-up to this for weeks.  I'm sure everyone saw the concrete bunkers being shipped to the opposite bank.  Additionally we've seen bridge after bridge dropped into the river.

What we haven't seen is a concerted push to take the town and pummel the Russians.

I imagine that the Ukrainians decided there was no need.  Simply sit back and bombard them from distance.

Long story short?

The best I can come up with is that they're setting the stage for the winter campaign and are simply falling back to more defensible positions while the weather is somewhat favorable.

What do ya'll think?

Interesting Twitter Thread about a girl from India...

That time when Admiral Halsey sailed a task force into a hurricane and lost more ships/aircraft/sailors than he did in a major engagement with the enemy...

The losses were horrific. The mystic of WW2 is strong but as in anything, the failures were numerous. In this case a complete leadership failure that would have resulted in a courts martial for a less famous officer.

Must read Tweet on why Brits wear poppies (the story behind it all --- trust me its fascinating!)

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND READ THE ENTIRE TWITTER THREAD (if you're not familiar with the story - I wasn't!)

Lane Kiffin loves playing with fire!

Pretty damn bold.

Alabama Football is pissed right now and he's gonna tweet that?

BUT!

If he can take down Alabama & Nick Satan then it'll be all good!

US Army HIMARS transported to Latvia for exercise

How long did it take the US Army to transfer the multiple launch rocket system from Germany to Latvia for the exercises? Just three hours. Take a look at how it happened.
Synopsis

The US Army has deployed an advanced multiple rocket launcher to Latvia as part of a multinational exercise. The M142 High Mobility Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS), or HIMARS, arrived in Latvia on September 26 to participate in the Silver Arrow 2022 exercise. The combat vehicles were delivered from Germany to Latvia by a US Air Force MC-130J Commando II transport aircraft based in the UK. Exercise Silver Arrow 2022 took place from 19 to 30 September 2022.
The HIMARS system gives NATO the ability to deliver powerful, long-range precision strikes, and the US Army regularly deploys the system to the Baltic States for joint exercises with NATO allies. In recent years, the US Joint Special Operations Command Europe has been practicing rapid deployment of the system with the help of the UK-based Commando II transport aircraft.
