So the Russians were gonna make a run at Zelensky....CIA director secretly met with Zelenskyy before invasion to reveal Russian plot to kill him

 via Business Insider

CIA Director Bill Burns met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on a secret trip to Kyiv ahead of the Russian invasion last year to share news that appeared to surprise the Ukrainian leader: the Russians were plotting to assassinate him.

At that time, in January 2022, Zelenskyy had been dismissing the idea that Russians would carry out an unprovoked invasion of Ukraine and was suggesting America's public warnings were creating a "panic," noted Chris Whipple in his forthcoming book, "The Fight of His Life: Inside Joe Biden's White House."

It was unusual for the US to publicly disclose intelligence like this, suggesting Washington was confident in its assessment of Russia's intentions. But just weeks before Russia invaded, Zelenskyy expressed concerns that such warnings would have a negative impact on the Ukrainian economy — and emphasized that Kyiv was used to facing threats from Russia.

"Burns had come to give him a reality check" and the CIA director shared that Russian Special Forces were coming for Zelenskyy, writes Whipple, adding that President Joe Biden told Burns "to share precise details of the Russian plots."

Here

Ok.  This makes sense. I've wondered why Russian special ops didn't take a run at Zelensky or even launch a few cruise missiles at him but apparently we warned him (probably continue to) of the threats.

Which brings me to the other startling thing here.

It's not Ukrainian fighting spirit.

It's not Russian incompetence.

It's US intel that has kept the Ukrainians in this fight.

I really don't get it.  US intel is great at the strategic shit.  Nation state actions we're all over it.  Targeting certain high ranking figures we got that down pat.

Battlefield shit?

That, "hey you're gonna get hit between 0400 and 0800 on such and such date" so you better have your shit ready seems to be lacking a bit.

That real time stuff like the Iranians are gonna make a run at our ships in the Gulf kinda things are missing too.

If China goes over the berm we might not dodge the bullet but we'll know its coming.

Most Decorated Marine of His Time-Major General Smedley Butler-Two Medals of Honor

Two medals of honor. A book that spans the test of history. A patriot that actually exposed a REAL coup attempt in the USA. The most influential Marine in history that the Corps barely recognizes. Check out one of the real GREATS of the USMC.

The U.S. Marine Corps: Now An Access-Denial Force to Fight China? via Real Clear Defense

 via RCD

This week Yomiuri Shimbun reported that the U.S. Marine Corps intends to found a Marine Littoral Regiment capable of island-hopping along Japan’s Ryukyus chain, which arcs from the southernmost home island of Kyushu, through Okinawa at the chain’s midpoint, almost to within sight of northern Taiwan. Small sensor- and missile-equipped detachments will comprise the new regiment, helping it scout out hostile naval and air forces and pummel them should they draw near.

The Marine Littoral Regiment constitutes part of Force Design 2030, Commandant David Berger’s concept for partly reconfiguring the Marine Corps as an access-denial force. Under the concept marines will fan out among the southwestern islands in concert with U.S. sea and air forces and the Japan Self-Defense Forces. Expeditionary units drawn from the regiment will “stand in,” defying China’s anti-access arsenal, rather than stand off for the sake of force protection.

Here

So more proof that the Marine Corps is becoming a HYPER SPECIALIZED force.  Not amphibious assault experts that can flex up and down the spectrum of warfare but a specialized force that is built only to ATTEMPT to deter China in the first island chain.

Specialization is for insects.

Zumwalt Class Destroyers are trading in their 155mm guns for hypersonic missile tubes...

Nigeria is starting to falter...

Lawlessness is the first sign of a failing state. I personally believe that we're headed in that direction in the US unless either govt takes a stand or citizens start doing their thing. Nigeria? I'm shocked. With all the other problems they're facing (both from internal and external factors), I can see this country collapsing. I don't think we have the stomach for it but outside intervention is probably called for. Maybe a few detachments of Special Forces to bolster their home security apparatus? AFRICOM is so far behind the curve they're probably just now hearing this too though.
