Italian Special Ops Light Strike Vehicle...a glaring hole in US capabilities that only the USAF seems to have covered...

This vehicle brings to mind that only the USAF seem to have the "Light Strike Vehicle" concept covered in our force structure.

If I'm not mistaken the USMC evaluated the various Utility Vehicles in service and concluded that they were not suitable for the role.

USAF Pararescue went a different way and developed the Guardian Angel for the role of personnel recovery.

While being too large for carriage aboard the MV-22, it will fit the CH-47 and CH-53s we have in service.

I guess the issue is whether or not there is a real role anymore for this type vehicle in our force.

I can see ALL Special Ops units needing a LSV.  Especially the Rangers.

Conventional forces?  I'm not so sure it fits anymore.  Not even for our MEUs in their future construction.

Maybe this is a concept that only applies to Special Ops and is no longer needed by Conventional Forces.

The Taliban have thermal imagers. 18+

Pretty damn horrifying. Someone needs to get perimeter security right.

I don't know if that's captured equipment or Iranian/Pakistani kit but dang that sucks bad.

PLA special forces' new ATV

Have you noticed something about the Chinese ATVs? They're moving more toward what we would consider "work utility" variants while in the West we're working toward what we call in my area a "sports utility" variant. Is that a cultural thing or a matter of operating concept?

New Chinese Amphibious Truck...anyone have more info?

I am so intrigued by this vehicle.

This goes out to my Chinese readers and China watchers on the blog.

Does anyone have pics of this beast out of the water?  What is its cargo capacity?  What is the thinking behind it?  Is it just cargo or does it have a tactical role (beyond logistics...thinking weapons carrier etc...).

I so want to know more but this one appears to be a total surprise...even more surprising is that no one seems to be talking about it on MilTwitter!

Global warming is old skool...the old old skool is new skool again...Rapid Global Cooling is back in fashion as a threat!

A large system of ocean currents in the Atlantic – which includes the Gulf Stream – has been disrupted due to human-caused climate change, scientists reported in a new study published Thursday. If that system collapses, it would lead to dramatic changes in worldwide weather patterns.

The Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation, or AMOC, transports warm, salty water from the tropics northward at the ocean surface and cold water southward at the ocean bottom.

“The Atlantic Meridional Overturning really is one of our planet’s key circulation systems,” said the author of the study, Niklas Boers from the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research in Germany.

Findings from a similar 2018 study drew comparisons to the scientifically inaccurate 2004 disaster movie “The Day After Tomorrow,” which used such an ocean current shutdown as the premise of the film. At the time, study authors said a collapse was at least decades away but would be a catastrophe.

Ya know what I really hate about these predictions?  They're always in the near far future and they always demand that action be taken today.

But when we get close to the point of where calamity was supposed to occur then the goal posts get moved.

Climate change science is totally political.  I just don't trust it anymore.

San Francisco is out of control!

Force Ghurka...America should embrace small SUVs..

I see the push for electric cars but quite honestly I don't think the juice is worth the squeeze. Save the environment? I don't see it. The extraction of precisious resources is extreme and we would wreck the planet for one fossil fuel to acquire another mineral (or whatever lithium is). What should we do instead? Well for my part of the country we should embrace small SUVs and push for other forms of fuel savings. Green house gases are a threat? Well if one volcano erupts we'll see mother nature throw up more Co2 in an afternoon than man could throw up in a century! The Force Ghurka would be a best seller in the US. I guarantee that! Suzuki Jimmy too!

Worked a rodeo and concert last night...

So there I was.  Working a rodeo and concert last night.  Drunk cowboys, and rednecks everywhere.  The rodeo was exciting to watch (loved the bull riding...mix a high speed car crash with watching a high wire act with swirling winds along with a good MMA fight - in this case man against bull - and you pretty much know why I found that shit fascinating and a good watch!) and the singer was some dude that I never heard of but was a pretty awesome country singer.

Fast forward a couple of hour and everyone is good and licker'ed up.

Nothing serious but we had a few...fights...not anything that I'd call a real fight more like a bit of energetic jostling.

Low and behold we're getting one cowboy out the arena when I see the local PD roll up.  Then another.  Another.  Then about 6 more of them.

I ask the dude what the fuck ya'll got going on out here?

The response?

We heard ya'll were involved in a melee....Sheriff's Deputies back to back fighting off a crowd.

I was shocked.

Not because of the call.  The public can be batshit stupid.  Easily excitable and too much TV makes people's imaginations run wild.

What was shocking is the response.

Felt good man.  Felt real good.  If you don't get it then I can't explain it.

Digging the lifestyle.

I'm going work out.
