How close did we come to shots being fired at the Bundy Ranch?

Check out the above photo.  I found it by googling Bundy Ranch standoff.

Notice the guy in prone position?

Notice the law enforcement vehicles in the background?

Think that he wasn't observed by either counter sniper or airborne surveillance?

How close did we come to shots being fired today?  I look at the above photo and it chills me to the bones.  If I recall correctly, pointing a weapon at a LEO is considered justification for them to shoot.  How many times did a BLM supervisor have to deny a request to shoot at the guys on the overpass pointing weapons at them?

The country is on razors edge and the pic above is proof of that.  Someone will miscalculate and people will die.

Victory at the Bundy Ranch? Are you stupid?!

Watching news reports of the Fed's "supposedly" backing off from an armed confrontation at the Bundy Ranch.

All over the internet people are talking about "victory" and how the masses won the first battle of the next civil war.

Are you stupid?

Federal Law Enforcement doesn't quit when it faces armed opposition.  I'm not a fan of most federal agencies (US Marshals and FBI are good to go though) but even the BLM would not back down.

My theory.

They're gonna let the militias claim victory, let the temperature lower and in about a week or two we're gonna hear about a massive raid that will be done in about an hour or two...long before word can spread on the internet.

Round 1 to the militia, but mark my words.  The Feds will achieve their goals.  Sadly, time is on their side.

No fly zone over Bundy Ranch.

MAJOR hat tip to the Unwanted Blog!

Read the notice to airmen here.  This is interesting.  The only aircraft allowed in the area are BLM "relief" flights.

This is escalating quickly.  Seems like an incident will be manufactured if they can't get one organically.

Side Note:  The amount of data that the NSA is picking up on militias in the US must be startling right now.  This is how you tell the professionals from the amateurs.  Comms discipline is basic shit.  Additionally they now probably have inventories of gear that will allow a search warrant for houses across the country.  If I didn't know better, I'd think someone saw an opportunity and decided to take an over reaction on the part of the militia community and use it as a chance to gather intel.

I don't say it often but well played Feds.  Devious, but well played.

Marine Corps Politics. The revolt against Amos intensifies.

Check this out from OafNation Blog.
General James Amos is your Commandant. And that should scare the shit out of you.
This reality should induce fear and uncertainty for a variety of reasons. Like the multiple investigations for abuse of command authority; mounting evidence that he submitted false statements in legal proceedings; ongoing investigations aimed at him and his staff regarding abuse of the classification process; multiple whistleblower accusations from three-star Generals to field grade officers, and former and current JAG lawyers.
Any one of these scandals should be enough cause for alarm. Looking at the long list of accusations against him and his staff, it’s hard to ignore the pattern of abuse that is unfolding.

North Carolina Congressman (R) Walter Jones, aptly summed up the situation in a letter he wrote to the director of the US Information Security Oversight Office, regarding the open investigation into the unlawful abuse of classification authority for the purposes of covering up misconduct, “this corruption, at the highest level of the USMC, is unlike anything I have witnessed in my 20 years in Congress.”
Let that sink in. A Congressman, a career politician, considers Gen. Amos to be one of the most corrupt figures he has ever encountered.

Every initiative that Amos has passed or is proposing will be up for major review by the next Commandant.

Marines endure and we're enduring Amos.  The next guy has serious cleaning to do. The real question is this.  How much damage has been done to the Corps by his leadership?  We won't know until fresh leadership gives us a good accounting, but I'm not optimistic.

People are going operational. Are we about to see a "meeting engagement" in Nevada?

Uh.  Wow.

This will make some interesting weekend watching.  The Feds can't afford to blink can they?  Can these militia groups?  I am absolutely positive that all forms of communications have been compromised and a large number will probably be arrested for "traffic" offenses en-route....but for those that make it there.

Will they actually nut up and go against Federal Law Enforcement?  We'll see.

Side note:  Check out the description in the video that they guy left.  Too good not to post here....

Watch Nevada. This is the next Waco...

Read Modern Survival Blogs take on this here.

My thoughts.

I believe both sides, civilians and certain federal agencies want a flash point for both resistance and a crack down.

Another thing that I find disturbing is how quickly and easily it seems for State and Local Law Enforcement to fall into line with the Feds.  They always talk about being part of the community but in the end they always salute and get in line.

What should alarm the feds???  People from around the country are heading that way. This can get messy unless people get smart...otherwise we're looking at the next Waco.

Africa as justification for the SPMAGTF-CR?

Check this out from Marine Corps Times...
“In those areas especially in the African continent, a gallon or a liter of clear fresh water, potable water, is worth more than a liter of petrol,” Amos said.
The youth bulge, also covering most of Africa and a portion of the Middle East, referred to regions where the population was increasing, in some places exponentially, Amos said.
With factors such as hunger, water stress, and joblessness, Amos said, “you throw in an increase on youth. Disaffected youth. unemployed youth. Youth that wander across borders. And then you look the areas where our fuel and our oil reserves are, and then you take a look at where nuclear weapons are, and you get a sense of just how dangerous the world is going to be.”
Why is the Commandant focusing so forcefully on the African continent?

Because it supports his concept of operations.  Small units being able to deploy quickly to hot spots.

What should worry the hell out of many is the fact that the Commandant of the Marine Corps appears to have abandoned Air-Sea Battle..

If Africa is the focus then SPMAGTF-CR make more sense.  They're MUCH too light to fight and survive in the Pacific.  As a matter of fact they HAVE NO STRATEGIC OR TACTICAL VALUE IN THE PACIFIC!!!!

But in Africa they become a bit more palatable.

Amos is pushing a flawed concept, taking aim at a lost continent to justify that concept and disregarding stated DoD policy when it comes to the orientation of US forces into the future.  He wants his 100 years war on terrorism, policy makers be damned.

Mark my words.  If you think the Middle East is a mess then wait till Amos gets us hip deep in Africa.  This is trouble on a biscuit.

In going to General Amos you proved that you are not interested in being a leader. You’re interested in a career. Amos gave you special treatment because you’re a woman, which you accepted. I wonder what General Mattis would have told you. Either way, you’re not qualified to lead troops and they’re going to put you into an administrative billet that’s going to be a cakewalk. It might be great for your career, but I imagine your command is going to hide you in a corner because you’ve already proven that if you have a problem, you’re going to go to the media (when some ruck runs might have been more fruitful to your conditioning, Devil).
Yep, I just devil-dogged you, ma’am.

Ukraine is on the verge.

The above video is from Russian Times (so carefully evaluate what you're seeing) and it came with this description...
An amateur video shows Ukrainian personnel and armored vehicles moving closer to Donetsk. The region demands a nationwide referendum on the state structure. Locals try to stop machinery from progressing further. Ukraine's acting Interior Minister threatens to resolve the situation "in 48 hours". READ MORE:http://on.rt.com/b1ghdq
I don't know who's idea it was to issue an ultimatum but this thing is heading toward critical mass and I haven't heard anything from anyone except the Russians and the Ukrainians...the EU and US are mute.

I can't even see where this is going but the next day or two should prove interesting.

I hope this youngsters Company Commander squares him away....

This is a most unfortunate statement....I just hope this youngster's Company Commander squares him away before he goes running off at the mouth to his Marines that have been there and done that...FOR REAL!  via Marine Corps Times...
"Coming off the bird, we already knew we were going to take contact because we had already identified the exact number of enemy that were at the [landing zone]. Without the technology, we wouldn't be able to do that and we potentially could've been caught off guard." - 2nd Lt. Travis Bird, an IOC student.
Editors Note:  This took place at Quantico.  As one Marine Corps Times reader commented...Cute!

China tells US defense chief to ‘restrain’ the Philippines

Read the entire story.  The title pretty much tells it all, but this part grabbed my attention...
"As the PLA modernizes its capabilities and expands its presence in Asia and beyond, American and Chinese forces will be drawn into closer proximity - which increases the risk of an incident, an accident, or a miscalculation," Hagel said in a speech at the National Defense University.
"But this reality also presents new opportunities for cooperation."
The risks of a mishap were highlighted in December when the American guided missile cruiser USS Cowpens had to take evasive action in the South China Sea to avoid hitting a Chinese warship operating in support of the Liaoning.
China's military modernization has also been accompanied by a more assertive posture in its territorial disputes.
China claims 90 percent of the 3.5 million sq km (1.35 million sq mile) South China Sea, where the Philippines, along with other countries, stake claims. China has a separate dispute with Japan in the East China Sea over uninhabited islets that are administered by Japan.
The SecDef is working hard to make sure that the Chinese don't pull a Crimea in the Pacific, but I have little faith in his ability to contain events.

Dispatching two additional warships to the region is rather weak sauce when it comes to deterrence but if that's all you can do...

Enhanced Company Operations. The Marine Corps looks at the last war instead of future conflicts...

  ECO

This is the first of several "briefing" slides that I'll present to bolster my argument that Expeditionary Force 21 is an example of the USMC looking backwards....

More to the point it illustrates how Amos is steering the Corps towards a future that will see it unprepared to engage in conventional combat against peer or near peer opponents.

Read it carefully, compare it to EF21 and take in the implications.

Small units dispersed over a large area just waiting to be fixed and destroyed by even primitive but organized opposition.  We've seen it in Afghanistan and if this concept isn't challenged we'll see it again.

Gate Guard killed by fellow Marine at Lejeune...

via Marines.mil Press Release.
CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. --
At approximately 5:30 p.m., a Marine standing guard at Camp Lejeune’s Main Gate discharged an M4 rifle, killing another Marine guard.Identification is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.The Base Provost Marshal has stated the incident is being considered neither as an act of terrorism nor an active shooter event at this time. The incident is currently under investigation by Naval Criminal Investigative Service.
I don't know what happened.

I do know the force is under strain.

The Commandant has only one real duty to the Corps.  Leave it in better shape than when he found it.
