Note.  How does the Australian military approach social media (in particular the Army)?  I'm finding stuff all over the place.  Is their one location where I can grab it all?

This looks crazy delicious!

The problem with planks in one pic...

So the Commandant just approved planks as an alternative to crunches for the PFT?

The pic above illustrates the problem with that.  Notice the Marine at the far right (as you're looking at the pic)?

He's the only one doing it right.  The one in the middle and far left should be no go's.  Raising your ass in the air takes the strain off your hip flexors (I think) as is a common "cheat".

Haven't read the details but this thing is gonna be problematic...JUST MARK MY WORDS!

Change for change sake is always bad.  The PFT has to evolve...I understand that, but this ain't a change for the good.  Modifications to the crunch had already taken place to make them safer.

Teach the exercise so that its done correctly.  That's how you improve things.

Looks like the Israeli Air Force is making a run at the new Iranian Command & Control Center in Syria...

Should have known something was brewing when I saw pics earlier today on Twitter of a new Iranian C&C in Syria.

Now I know.

They were prepping the ground on social media for this strike.

Nicely done IDF.

Nicely done.

The Big F-35 Flaw That Won't Be Easy to Fix...stealth can't hide this...

via National Interest.
GAO report notes that F-35 operators “need to…perform time-consuming, manual workarounds in order to manage and track spare parts,” requiring over 45,000 hours of additional labor per year. These flaws are leading to “missing or corrupted electronic spare parts data” and the “maintenance and supply systems within ALIS not communicating with each other.”

On April 9, the first F-35A Lightning stealth jet built in Japan mysteriously vanished while flying a training mission over the Pacific Ocean. It’s veteran pilot, who had sixty hours of experience specifically on the F-35, only indicated he was aborting mission before falling entirely out of contact.

----------------------------------

The two crashes illustrate how the components of the ambitious new stealth jet still may require replacement as new potential flaws are discovered and corrected for.

Unfortunately, this process is hampered by a crippling shortage of thousands of spare parts, as described in a new report by the Government Accountability Office. The shortfall has left only half of the brand-new stealth fighters in mission-capable condition, forcing operational F-35 units to cannibalize aircraft as they wait weeks for replacement parts to be delivered.

For several years, the Pentagon has attempted to address the shortage, but according to the GAO, these incoherent measures have so far failed to keep up with the increasing pace of new airframe production.
Story here.

The solution is simple.

An immediate halt to production should take place.  Once that's done then a top to bottom review of every problem identified should take place and fix them!  THEN they should fly the wings off planes that have those fixes.  Once confidence is established THEN they should restart production.

400 planes produced.

Most if not all of them are unsuitable for the missions that they're intended to fly.

The current pace of things is substandard.  A better plan is needed post haste.

Is there an internal battle over Iran within the Trump admin?

via Military Times.com
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Sunday that the Trump administration is ready for unconditional discussions with Iran in an effort to ease rising tensions that have sparked fears of conflict. But the United States will not relent in trying to pressure the Islamic Republic to change its behavior in the Middle East, America’s top diplomat said.

Pompeo repeated long-standing U.S. accusations that Iran is bent on destabilizing the region, but he also held out the possibility of talks as President Donald Trump has suggested. While the offer may not pan out, Pompeo made it during a visit to Switzerland, the country that long has represented American interests in Iran, as part of a European trip aimed at assuring wary leaders that the U.S. is not eager for war.

“We’re prepared to engage in a conversation with no preconditions,” Pompeo told reporters at a news conference with his Swiss counterpart. “We’re ready to sit down with them, but the American effort to fundamentally reverse the malign activity of this Islamic Republic, this revolutionary force, is going to continue.”
Story here.

I've listed a cabal that I believe form the deep state within the US govt.  Those forces include Democrats, Neo-Cons, so called Republican Party leadership, the media and certain bureaucrats.

The most dangerous of this group?

In my opinion the Neo-Cons.

Why?

Because they lust for power (well they all do) but the Neo-Cons have flexed/morphed themselves to appear as if they support the current administration's policies while pushing the same old song and dance that has our military stretched to the breaking point.

Fortunately the most prominent of them appear to be getting crushed in the latest internal battles inside the Trump admin.

John Bolton has been banging the war drums with Iran for the past month or more.  Unfortunately it appears that JCS Chairman General Dunford is also pounding those same drums.

But despite limited troop movements (I had heard reports that up to 10k could be heading to the Gulf) numbering a few planes, ships and soldiers we've seen serious attempts by the President AND SecState to lower the rhetoric and the tensions.

Even better?

We've gotten the same signals from Iran.

Was the raising of tensions justifiable?  I don't know.  We don't have visibility on the intel that they're claiming.

What I do know is this.

We don't need to start another fight in a region being wrecked by war already. Oh and make no mistake about it.  The fighting we're seeing there currently IS A REGIONAL WAR!

I don't need this admin to be peacekeepers.  I just need them to not blunder into another fight.

Imagining the Impossible: Insurgency in the U.S.A. via Defense Technical Information Center...UPDATE!

*Note.  This has more to do with the comments than the thesis.  Is anyone taking into account the forming of this country?  The settlers fled England because of persecution.  In essence the christians that arrived in America were fleeing persecution from other christians!  Today we would label that sectarian violence.  Is this a christian nation?  Yes.  Do things remain static? No.  A quick side...that's why I have a problem with climate change advocates...nothing remains constant and neither has the climate over the history of this planet.  Back on point.  Nothing remains as it is.  Change is a constant.  Instead of arguing the favorite talking point of religion, maybe the focus should be on bigger issues that directly affect people that would be unengaged.  Those are the issues that would cause a potential rebellion inside these borders...not religion but other issues that will affect the masses, not interest groups.

From Archive.org.
As the United States focuses on external threats will internal threats sufficient to enable the overthrow of the United States government materialize?. Most contemporary literature prescribes a myriad of solutions to counter a foreign nation's insurgency after it has already manifested. A prudent way to counter an insurgency is to identify it and prevent it before it starts. To know when an insurgency is developing is difficult, but is an important measure for any government to pursue to ensure its survival. Historically, the United States has not been immune to insurgent impulses. Although not necessary for insurgent mobilization, a Perfect Storm of converging existing conditions (globalization, demographic shifts, anti-Christian attitudes, and increasing domestic militarization) may threaten America's white non-Hispanic Christian population and potentially foment an insurgency. Current trends suggest this may already be happening in an area within the United States. This research seeks to determine the mechanisms by which an insurgency could manifest itself in the United States and assist the U.S. government in considering how to preemptively counter a domestic insurgency.
This thesis was written at the Naval PostGraduate School to fulfill the requirements for this US Army Officer's Masters Degree in Defense Analysis.

Here.

I have no comment on this.  I just want to sit back and watch the comments/views expressed.  But there is one issue that needs to be front and center in everyone's mind.  Could America face an insurgency within our own borders?  Could modern day America survive if it was possible?

Ever heard of a Raccoon Dog?

Jesus!  This is one of those creatures that has to come from the depths of hell!  I never even knew this was a thing.  A freaking Raccoon Dog?

Who thinks up shit like this?  Anyway, there's one terrorizing a town.  Check out the story here.

Blast from the past. Infantry Combat Vehicle XM701

Note.  I'm becoming more than a bit frustrated.  Does anyone know of a site where I can get pics of armored vehicles of the past that DOES NOT have some of the obnoxious watermarks from websites?  We're talking about armor history that isn't the property of anyone but the people of the world that have an interest in this kinda thing.  Send me a link or two if you know of a place where I can fill my library with images like the ones below.

All pics via Russian Tanks.com (as if the watermarks down the center didn't tell you that already!)...
