SECNAV Del Toro Sounds Alarm Over Chinese Illegal Fishing...how does the Littoral Regiment counter this activity? It is "grey zone" right?

 via USNI News

Illegal and unreported fishing “is happening on an industrial scale” around the globe and the culprit often is China’s subsidized fishing fleet, Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro said today.

Speaking Thursday at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, he added, “one in five fish” sold on international markets is illegally caught. Declining fish populations due to climate change and overfishing are having a profound effect on sources of protein in poorer nations’ food supplies, the secretary said.

In his meetings with counterparts in Oceania and other nations, Del Toro said, “violations of their Exclusive Economic Zones rise to the top of their concerns,” as does their need for better maritime awareness of what is happening in their waters to include mineral and energy exploration.

Interesting.  The idea that dialogue, awareness or diplomacy will work on this issue is a non-starter.

Do you recall that armada of fishing boats China placed on a reef near the Phillipines?

Additionally the Philippine govt stated that many of those boats were crewed by Chinese militia and not fishermen.

If the Littoral Regiment is gonna actually be tasked with countering Grey Zone activities then its a mission that will fail from the start.

Additionally if it is simply a trip wire that will be deployed to "allied" nations in the region to protect their territory from "illegal" activities (activities that have been allowed to occur for at least a decade now), then 2030 is probably gonna be too late to have this force ready for the big fight.

Love these details. Had a chance to do security for Cedric The Entertainer

Cedric was on point (as always). Great show, good turnout, and no issues with the crowd. But its late so blogging will be light. Probably post some stuff later in the day after I sleep in and catch a quick workout.

The world's first *VBIED* based on an electric vehicle (E-VBIED?) was recently detonated by Finns.

This Tweet appears to be a bit of tongue in cheek but I wonder.

First Responders all over the US are getting classes on dealing with electric vehicle fires, being warned of the dangers and been coached up on dealing with the fact that traditional fire fighting tools are rendered useless when dealing with burning lithium.

What happens when terrorist glob onto the fact that if they can get those batteries to burn that it will be very difficult to put them out.

What happens when they start collecting a ton or so of these batteries and drive them into a fuel depo?

I'm not even thinking about what happens to our troops if they're in a vehicle with floor lined batteries that catch fire.

The rush to electric vehicles has seemingly unseen hazards for the force that are being ignored.

Note. Of bigger interest then the Royal Marines using the Polaris is the talk of how censored military photos are. I acknowledge the difficulty and find a new reason to be thankful for our US Military. Alot of stuff is classified and kept out of the public eye, but we do get to see REMARKABLY more than most nations. Russia is the only nation that seems to put out more info. Other Western forces? MUCH MUCH MUCH less.
