Good God it's real. Predatory birds will attack small children...

 

I've seen all kinds of vids of eagles, falcons...whatever making off with dogs, cats, even small deer but I've never seen one where its going after a small child. Makes me wonder how many times in human history we've seen small people being devoured by predatory birds.

THIS IS A MUST READ TWITTER THREAD!  MAKE SURE YOU DO! But some won't want to bother so I'm popping it out here...

 If πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ wants πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ in NATO then obviously πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ needs to develop much, much, much greater military capabilities.

Europe is not even capable of defending itself from conventional Russian military forces, let alone supplying πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ with the military aid it needs. It remains heavily dependent on πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ for both. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ currently has the smallest army its had in 200 years. Last year it had 157 available tanks. Its artillery capabilities are very limited. The RAF is in bad shape. And the royal navy has a grand total of 6 attack subs, 6 destroyers, and 7-8 available ASW frigates. So bringing πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ into NATO simply means transferring *more* European security responsibilities to πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ taxpayers and πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ soldiers. At a time when πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ is already badly overstretched between 4 different theaters. This is totally unacceptable and just D.O.A. from an American perspective. To even talk about πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ joining NATO while Europe remains so heavily dependent on πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ is kind of ridiculous. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ needs to prioritize the Pacific and shift more conventional assets, esp USAF/USN/USMC to that theater due to the rising threat from πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³. Bringing πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ would obviously undermine that. This is merely another example of Europeans, particularly the British and French, biting off way more than they can chew, assuming πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ will bail them out. If πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ seriously wants πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ in NATO then πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ needs to immediately start to spend a minimum of 4% GDP on defense and maybe closer to 4.5% or 5%. The current level of 2.2% with a "goal" of hitting 2.5% by 2030 is just entirely unserious and not even adequate to protect existing NATO territory. Conscription would also almost certainly be required to build up the reserve force to the scale needed to actually deter πŸ‡·πŸ‡Ί. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ would also need other key NATO allies to substantially increase their commitments, including France, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy and Canada. Time to get real. Commitments need to be aligned with *ACTUAL* capabilities. If you want to substantially expand commitments and interests then you need to substantially expand capabilities. Which means spending lots of money, among other things. Without that, it's hollow and dangerous since it harms the credibility of the commitment and makes war more likely. This is a bit like gambling. Responsible nation states don't act like con men, hoping they can BS their way through a security crisis with a nuclear-armed adversary. That's why responsible American and West European Cold War leaders were dead serious about (a) building up massive military capabilities, and (b) drawing interests & commitments in a relatively narrow way. That's prudent. That's realism. That's responsible statecraft. Not this post Cold War "we can do everything and be everywhere" neoconservatism & muscular liberalism, all while our actual real world capabilities continue to diminish year after year. 1/

Ground guys always reach for kinetic solutions but the French Army Chief says small drones are already being defeated and this is a blip in time...

I don't have the info he does but it makes sense. Small drones are the big bad right now but just like the Turk drone that was rampaging around the battlefield early in the war, their time is over.

Ground guys always reach for kinetic solutions.  I get it.  I'm with it. But this time its electronics that will lead the way.  Of course that brings a whole host of additional problems that I have no idea about but it is what it is and some brain will have to work it all out.

Long story short?

Just like we over invested in killing tanks for 40 years, we were tipping into over investing in killing small drones.

Electronic warfare is the answer and solutions are already appearing.

We can't relax just yet but we need to invest scarce defense dollars wisely.

Chasing the next revolution in military warfare is a fool's game.  We haven't gotten it right since the beginning of time and I don't believe anyone wearing stars will magically get it right today.

Picking up on the Force Design 2030 stuff, how many of these do we need to see before we stop doing this shit?

AFP troops are lucky they weren't killed.  China is obviously pushing things yet still moderating...at least a little bit.

Sooner or later the Philippines will have to show force and things will escalate quickly.

The SORRY, PATHETIC & SAD THING is that most are missing what this is.  

THIS IS NOT A TEST OF THE PHILIPPINE GOVT!  IT'S A TEST OF US RESOLVE AFTER SIGNING A DEFENSE PACT WITH PI!!!

We can run all the Marine Littoral Regiment exercises we want.  The US Army can run out their Multi-Domain whatever the fuck ya call it.

They're toothless tigers.

It will take deploying destroyers, frigates, hell even a few LCS to the region to combat this type of action.  It'll also take a few ship skippers that have the permission and the balls to rub paint, fire warning shots and maybe take a few hits to get this shit to stop.

I don't see it happening.

China is winning short of war.  That makes it a perfect victory right?

The US Army has 100 landing ships in its fleet. Force Design 2030 is asking for 35 & they're coming in late/over budget..

 

I despise Force Design 2030.

I think it unnecessarily wrecked the Marine Corps and the only reason why it even was put into place was for legacy building and a chance for the New Marine Corps to be different.

Having said that, it only makes sense for the Marine Corps to simply use what the Army is using.  

Why?  

Because it don't make sense to reinvent the wheel.

But are you seeing the bigger issue here?  The US Army is waiting in the wings to pick up the amphibious assault mission that the Marine Corps is throwing away.

They can already conduct assaults from the sea via rotary winged aircraft (looking at the 101st but the Army has so many aviation assets that damn near any Light Infantry Division can do it).  They're moving toward having their own real deal Mobile Gun System designed specifically to support their light infantry.

They already have landing ships.

They're ready to take over the entire spectrum of forcible entry...all because a few Marine Corps leaders decided that it was "too hard".

The terrible thing is that I'm sensing a re-run of the first Trump administration.

Globalist filled to the gills in places of power, steering the US toward doom.

Berger set this in motion and the current idiot is continuing it.

The sunset is coming for the Marine Corps unless a drastic course correction is made.  We allowed this to be done to us and unless we make things right the bean counters will pin us as a trophy on their wall.
