Rough day for the Ukrainian push into Kursk?

Still don't get this offensive. Still seems fool hardy to me. Regardless I expect another stalemate and then a withdrawal to fortify their lines inside Ukraine cause this is looking like a bridge too far.

B-Roll: 3rd AA Bn. conducts ACV launch, recovery drills

U.S. Marines with 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 1st Marine Division, operate Amphibious Combat Vehicles during launch and recovery drills with the USS Germantown (LSD 42), a Whidbey Island-class dock landing ship, off the coast of Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, Aug. 7-9, 2024. The sustainment drills allowed the Marines to increase their proficiency in amphibious maneuvering by practicing launch and recovery procedures. (U.S. Marine Corps video by Lance Cpl. Large Scale, Long Range Air Assault to JRTC @ Night

101 Combat Aviation Brigade sling loads an Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV) for the 2nd Mobile Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at the Joint Regional Training Center (JRTC) at Ft. Johnson, LA as part of a large scale, long range air assault (L2A2) that the 101st launched from Ft. Campbell, KY to JRTC on the night of August 15, 2024. L2A2 means delivering one brigade combat team over 500 nautical miles in one period of darkness, arriving as a cohesive element where the enemy least expects it, capable of fighting behind enemy lines for 14 or more days.
So the Army is saying that they can transport a brigade of their Screaming Eagles 500 miles behind enemy lines and that they capable of sustained combat for 14 days before being relieved or linking up with follow on forces? That's some Marine Corps shit! That's some MEU shit....or used to be USMC MEU shit!

Berger gave it all away in order to chase his China whale and its gonna cost the Marine Corps.

The Pentagon will not tolerate a void and the US Army happily picked up everything Berger gleefully threw away.

That bastard thought he could see the future but he couldn't see how fucked up and arrogant he really was.

101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) lands during a large-scale, long-range Air Assault, on Aug. 13, 2024, at Monroe Regional Airport, La.

US Army is making 7th ID part of the ground force designated for the Pacific (25th ID is in play too)...

I'm on the outside looking in but it appears that the US Army is taking hardcore changes to make itself the decisive ground force in the Pacific.

Note that I did not say Korea, but the Pacific.

The 2nd ID (which is headed toward being understrength) is still tasked with the fight in Korea, but seems to be off the table for other areas.

The same definitely can't be said for the 25th ID which was the first Army unit to make a full throated swing there.  Now we can the 7th ID to the mix.

So what does that leave us with?

25th and 7th IDs dedicated to a potential fight with China (biased toward that fight?), 2nd ID tasked with Korea and 11th Airborne taking on the arctic fight.

These bastards are out Marining the Marine Corps.

The Army can tailor forces to regional fights.  The Marine Corps must be ready to swing to any fight in any region at anytime.

Force Design was a huge mistake.

The Army got started late but ya got to give the fuckers credit. Once they took a beat and a heading they're on track.

Let's get real about the Ukrainian invasion of Kursk...

The narratives that I'm hearing/reading about the Ukrainian invasion of Kursk has me spinning...

*  We've heard about manpower shortages on the Ukrainian side.
*  We've heard about entire battlegroups being encircled by the Russians.
*  We've heard that the Ukrainians need more of basically everything including retired F-16 pilots not to mention more artillery, anti-air missiles, etc...
*  We've seen a fool hardy counter offensive before.

So why isn't anyone questioning this move?

Why am I on an island wondering how a force that has had to take to the streets to force conscription is all of a sudden able to gather forces to take and hold territory?

A reader chided me (low key) for wondering if this thing is a PR stunt.

I'm still there so tell me how I'm wrong.

Is the Ukrainian "Kursk Offensive" just a PR stunt???

NOTE! I realize this guy is a sympathizer of the Russians but we can't just rely on Western news media to get the real deal on this stuff. Its up to you to decide but let's be honest. The idea that the Ukrainians could muster forces to launch an offensive at this stage of the fighting seems far fetched. To be even more blunt it seems more like a PR stunt than an actual action to change the course of the war. I'm smelling another ill timed offensive instead of a well conceived battle plan.

Wait what? Ukrainian forces without air, artillery or armored support are being picked off wholesale by Lancet attack drones???

Would Russia use battlefield tactical nukes to destroy Ukrainian forces on its own land?

You read the headline.

I think its possible.  It would stun and frighten the West and yet NO ONE COULD PLAUSIBLY do a thing about it.

They used tactical nukes on their own land against an enemy force.

How do you justify attacking a country for nuking its own land? NATO would be on the sidelines.  The US could posture but in the end do nothing.

The only real question, because I'm sure its been considered is if its worth it.

Do the Russians have neutron bombs?  High radiation levels that should rapidly dissipate if I remember correctly.  This sounds almost tailor made especially since structural damage would be limited.

What do ya'll think?

Don't know if this is correct but if so then modern Islam has subjugated its believers...

The traditional dress is so colorful and almost stunning. I wonder how and why modern Islam has gone to the "all black" attire? Additionally I have to wonder why we no longer here about the stress between Shia and Sunni.

How many of ya'll are gonna have memories after watching the vid?

Does this bring back memories for anyone?

Damn! Putin looks like he's ready to put a bullet in the head of his general during the briefing

Interesting. Ukraine has launched an offensive near Kursk?

This makes no sense. But its working so fuck me. How is a force that has suffered the casualties that the Ukrainians have, suddenly launched an offensive? Is it a real offensive or an attempt to take pressure off another front? There are encircled Russian forces. Will they attempt to keep them supplied by air (drone) or will they attempt a breakout? Weird war. Weird strategies. Is this an independent Ukrainian effort or are they taking the advice of pick your country?

This is gonna be a law suit from hell...

The West is screwed economically.

Noble wrote a comment on another blog post that paused me in track.

Long story short?

The West is screwed economically.  I'm no economist but just trying to suss out the trend lines and we either develop a new economic system or we're gonna be faced with invading armies (no, not immigrants either but actual armies) coming to the resource rich US and Canada.

Doing my little mind exercise I'm actually beginning to wonder if it wouldn't make more sense to retreat to fortress America NOW and build up a huge nuclear arsenal cause I'm beginning to wonder if the trend lines aren't pointing to us simply being spent into dust just like we did the USSR.

Enough of my musing.  Check out what Noble had to say along with the graphics he posted...

Just want to share a view graphics to paint a picture of "why the Pacific":

G7's declining share of global GDP Take-away: the handful of North American and Western European countries don't have the economic clout that they did when the Soviet Union collapsed.

Population Density of Asia Take-away: India, China, Indonesia, Pakistan...these places have MASSIVE populations, growing industrialization, growing technology, etc.......60% of the 8 billion humans live here. I think I read once that for almost all of recorded history minus the last few hundred years, China and India were >75% of global GDP. We are returning to that baseline.

World's 10 busiest ports Take-away: How do you pry the planet away from Chinese influence when they are the factory supplying everyone with needed goods? And is it any surprise that they are aggressively trying to secure their maritime trade links and build out overland alternatives?

We should have killed China in the crib.  MacArthur was right.  A terrible fight then would have prevented a terrible loss in the near future.

But do we have time to get them before they turn into a monster from the depths of hell?

Maybe if we got serious.  But they've penetrated too many of our institutions and govt.  Confidence is not high.  The nuclear arsenal that can destroy all comers is probably the best choice at this time.  Conventionally I just don't think we have the national will.
